Essential Skills For Success
Copywriting is an essential skill for success and is not an area of your learning that should be taken lightly.
The the bottom-line is: The more proficient of a copywriter you become, the more money you will make
When I make a statement like this, it always causes me to cringe. I instantly become a raving scitzaphrenic, and I start hearing your inner voices and all your defensive rationalizations and excuses. My brain becomes overwhelmed.
- I can't write a sales letter, I am not a salesman.
- I flunked English.
- I hate writing
You are what you think you are.
Here we are again.
No matter how hard I try to stay on topic, I always end up back at mindset.
I want you to know, that it is OK to think the way you are thinking, it is OK to feel the way you are feeling, and it is OK to see what you are seeing in your minds eye.
It is natural to doubt, it is natural to think you can't, when you have no past proof that you can.
On the other hand, at some time in your life:
- You could not walk,
- You could not talk,
- You could not read
I will presume, that you now perform these tasks with some proficiency and you learned these skills by imitating others that could. Isn't that correct?
Let's start with walking.
- How many times did you fall trying to walk?
- How many times did you get back?
- Why did you keep trying?
- Could you walk farther, steadier, and with more confidence each time you got back up?
Let me ask you a question. Can you walk now?
Ha. Ha. I agree, I still walk into walls from time to time too.... but most of the time I walk pretty well, don't you?
How about talking? How long did it take you to learn to talk? Could you talk from day one?
I have a better question... Can you talk now?
Ok, let me state that more clearly, can you talk better than you did when you were learning how to walk? If you can't, please don't answer.... Ha Ha.
Let me ask you a question? How did you learn to walk and talk?
- Did you watch the big people?
- Did you duplicate the big people's movements and speech patterns?
- Did you then copy those patterns and movements and found that they worked?
Once you grasped the patterns that allowed you to walk and talk, can you now do them over and over again without much effort?
Have they become second nature?
So let's spend a second and think of this fact.
What other skills in life have you become proficient in by imititating people that already did those things you were trying to learn?
What skills have you developed that you now do without even thinking about it.
- Driving a car?
- Putting on your clothes?
- Tying your shoes?
- Buttoning your shirt?
- Zipping your coat?
We have now turned full circle from my original point.
It is OK to think the way you are thinking, it is OK to feel the way you are feeling, and it is OK to see what you are seeing in your minds eye.
The part of this whole conversation that amazes you is that even as you are consciously thinking of reasons, why you can't write copy, your subconscious mind has expanded and has already accepted and incorporated that possibility as an accomplished reality that just hasn't become fact yet.
As we restate the last paragraph, it becomes amazingly clear that the transformation of our doubt to the confidence of being able to write convincing, persuasive copy is just the next progressive step in a logical evolution.
We now understand that as our mind expands, the possibility naturally becomes a reality.
It is a law of the Universe and can be accepted without question.
As you are exposed to the:
- Thought process'es of people,
- The Psychology of sales,
- The underlying human emotional triggers,
- The techniques and strategies of persuasion
- Formula of successful copy
You will start to write copy that:
- Tells stories through metaphors,
- Is persuasive in nature
- Follows the recipe
In fact, you will look back and be totally amazed at how your skills have been perfected and writing and speaking persuasively has become second nature to you.
So What is Copy Writing?
Now that you have subconsciously accepted the journey to becoming a master of persuasive copy writing, we should understand that Copy writing is nothing more than the art of persuassion in written form.
You already know how to persuade people. We do it everyday.
We may not perform the task of persuasion with the expertise of a magician, but we are already successfull in the art of persuasion a good percentage of the time. You will be amazed at how persuasive you will become.
Can you imagine how good at persuasion you will become, once you know the tricks and techniques that will mulitply your effectiveness one hundred fold.
