Welcome to Lesson 1.
In Lesson 1, you will have total access to all the resources no matter if you are here as a Free Guest, a Basic Member, or a Master member.
I have to assume that you here because you want to change your life and that you plan on buidling a long term busness on the internet, whether your intentions are to promote a MLM company, or to build a pure internet marketing business.
Whatever your intentions, there are some basic software programs, and tools that you need to be operationally familiar with in order to be successful on the net, so that is our intention in the first two lessons.

Many of you have a Domain Management Account such as Go-Daddy already, and so you may skip the signup process, but later in this lesson, we will be logging into your domain managment account to set your domains so that they point to your new hosting account.
While building your business, the majority of the tools and software you need can be obtained for free or will be given to you. Their are 3 or 4 pieces of software that are critical for your long term success that you will need to buy at some point. Xsitepro and SEO Elite are two of these pieces. They will save you hours and hours of development time. I will show you a video of why you need these in later lessons, on a need to know basis. I would tell you now, but then I would have to kill you. LOL.

Step 2: Setup Directory Structures to Stay Organized
|
As you start to Build an Internet Marketing business, it is important to start organized and then spend time each week staying organized. As you start downloading files, software, pfd files, audios, PLR files, and Resale rights, you will collect hundreds and hundreds of files, and if you don't get organized and stay organized, you end up with a total mess on your computer, which causes you to be inefficient in the use of your limited time.

Once I got organized, it is still the most daunting task to stay organized. The main reason is I don't do it every week. It seems that I wait until it is unmanagable again. Not only is my personal practice more time consuming, the bad part is I can never find important documents. It has taken me about 4 years to develop the system I have now and I think it works great, when I keep it organized on a regular basis. Again, I suggest you do it weekly.
Let's setup your basic directory structure now, before we start.
Following is the basic outline of our directory structure. For a detailed step by step procedure, download the Step by Step guide, or watch the video below.
- In My Documents create a folder called "My Websites".
- Create additional folders named "Swipe", "Librabry", and "Downloads" for now
- Create a shortcut of "My Websites" and place it on your desktop
- Click on the shortcut icon you just put on your desktop
- You are now inside the folder "My Websites"
- Create a folder called A2IM, inside of A2IM, create a series of folders called "Lesson1", "Lesson2", "Lesson3" and so on.

Step 3: Learn to Download Files From the Net
|
In order to save time uploading and downloading files on the internet, there are existing programs that compress one file or numerous files into one smaller, compressed file, called a zip file.
You will be constantly downloading files from the internet, and there is a 98% standard way of doing it.
If the hyperlink you click on to download is a pdf, and you left click on it, the pdf will open, if you right click on it, a box appears, and you would choose "save target as". A new box pops up, and you can choose the directory where you want to save it, you enter the folder name, and then download it to your machine.
If the hyperlink you click on to download is a raw audio or video file and not a audio/video that are zipped up. You left click on it, the audio will launch a streaming audio or video player, so that you can play the file online. If you right click on it, a box appears, and you would choose "save target as". A new box pops up, and you can choose the directory where you want to save it, you enter the folder name, and then download it to your machine.
If the hyperlink you click on to download is a compressed file/zip file, you right click on it, a box appears, and you would choose "save target as". A new box pops up, and you can choose the directory where you want to save it, you enter the folder name, and then download it to your machine.

Download Files From the Internet
Now, What do I do? this download file is in a zip format and I can't access it?
That is an easy problem to resolve.
First, we have to download a free piece of software called winrar. Many people use a popular program called winzip which is a trial version that lets you use it forever.
However, it pops up this "Buy Now" screen everytime you use it, and then you have to close that popup window before you use it.
I perfer using Winrar which is free also, and it does not have that annoyng popup window.

Step 4: Copy Writing Lesson of the Week
|
As a new or an experienced entrepreneur and a student of A2IM, there are a couple areas of your business, that are mandatory that you spend time learning, practicing, and implementing, so that your talents in these areas gradually turn to expert.
One of these critical areas, is the art of of persuasion. In my humble opinion, one of the best ways to become a master of persuasion is to become an effective Direct Marketing Copy Writer.
I always like to point out to people that the word copywriter can be very misleading. There is a big difference between a corporate advertising copy writer and a Direct Marketing Copy writer. You want to become a Direct Marketing/Response Copy writer, so read the materials I suggest, as I suggest them, and you will be led in the right direction.
To Become an effective Copy Writer, you have to learn the psychology of buyers, and then appeal to their needs. When you learn that people buy emotionally, and you learn to communicate with people on an emotional level in writing, you will find yourself utilizing your new found skills in your everyday life.
If you read and learn copywriting a little bit each week, by the end of the year, if you are not a top notch copywriter, you will be astute at knowing the difference between an effective piece and a poorly written piece.
When you build a business, you should work on your business, not in it. The "in it" part is the part that you should outsource. Copy writing is one of those areas that you need to be good at. You may outsource your sales letters, e-mail series, and direct mail pieces to a professional direct marketing copywirtier, but you have to know how to do it first.
So do yourself a favor and make this a priority over everything else, becasue it will make you a more productive indivdiual by making you a more effective communicator.
When you become an effective communicator, you will find your life blossoming. Beter communication with your wife, with your kids, with your girlfreind, with co-workers and your boss, not to mention your client base.
I have an important question for you to ponder.
Who makes more money in our society, an effective commuicator or someone who is an ineffective communicator? DUH!!!!

Step 5: Opening Your Domain Management Account
|
If you have not completed steps 1-4, go do it now before you proceed.
Do not start step 5 until step 1-4 is 100% completed.
There are many domain management companies on the internet, many of them are a reseller for Go-Daddy/ Go Daddy is one of the major player in the industry and rocl solid. Because of their position in the industry, I strongly recommend that you use Go-Daddy or one of their resellers. I personally use Domainspricedright.com. It is identical to Godaddy.com except for the name. You even get godaddy support when you call support.
Stay with Godaddy.com directly, if you are starting out brand new. If you already have an account and they are not a Godaddy reseller, I want you to open a Godaddy account. All of our training will be based on Godaddy's back office.
When you have been in the business for awhile, you start to accumulate many domain names. For instance: I have over 700 domain names. You want to have your domains registered wiht company that not only charges reasonable renewal fees, but more importantly a domain registration company that will be here in the future.
You do not want to have your domains registered with a company that goes out of business. Ask me how I know? Trust me, it is a hassle.
So in this step, we are going to either login to our hosting management account or signup for one. I am going to show you how to sign up for a new go-daddy account. We are then going to login and find a couple of domain names to use. One domain for the blog, and one for our hosting account root domain.
What I suggest for your domain name for marketing affilate programs, is some derivation of your name. If your name is available, I would grab every variation of your name --- .com, .org, .net, .tv, .info.
We will be building our first set of sites under the domain www. "yourname" .info.
Our blog will be www. "yourname" .info/blog and all your affiliate programs and reseller packages will be loaded under www. "yourname" .info/recommends.

Step 6: Major Features of Go Daddy Control Panel
|
As you saw when you registered for your GoDaddy account. Go Daddy has a management back office. It is the control center and the guardian for your domain name inventory. There are many functions and options available to you in this back office. You can:

Buy and sell domain names,

Set Masking and Unmasking

Forward/Redirect your domain traffic somewhere else

Park your domain

Control the DNS settings

Modify the domain name owner

Step 7: Setup of Hostmonster Account
|
There are many options in the marketplace for web hosting and many variables to consider when choosing a web hosting company. For those of you who do not know what web hosting means, I will describe it for you now.
Web Hosting is where you store your web pages so that people on the internet can access them.
Web hosting companies have hundreds and sometimes thousands of computers in data centers all hooked to the internet. Many of these centers are located in underground bunkers, offer secondary power sources, automatic backups, and basically ultimate protection and guaranteed computer uptime.
One of the considerations you must evaluate when esablishing a hosting account is whether you obtain a shared server or a dedicated server.
When you open up a hosting account with one of these companies, they can allocate you your own machine that is dedicated only to you, or they can allocate you space on a computer that you share with other users. Thus, the terms dedicated server and shared server.
Eventually, as you develop many mini-sites and associated sales systems, you will want a couple of dedicated servers, but for starters I am going to advise you to start with a shared server that allows you to host unlimited domains.
In order to manager your hosting account and to allow you to add your domains, manage your e-mails, and do other necessary tasks, you will need hosting management software. The two most popular are Plesk and Cpanel.
So one of our next considerations are: Does the Shared Server Hosting account offer either Plesk or Cpanel. Cpanel perferred because that is the software I am going to use to show you the basics, but Plesk operates in a similar fashion. So if you already have a hosting account that uses Plesk, you should still be able to follow along.
Having said all that, mainly to get you familiar with the terminology, I want to recommend a company called Host Monster. They offer unlimited domain hosting on as shared server for as little as $8.95 a month which is dirt cheap. As we progress you definately will need a hosting account that offers unlimited domain hosting because within three months you will have numerous websites up and running on the web, and hopefully starting to make some money.
There are other companies that offer the same services, and I have tried numerous of them. I always end back up at Host Monster for my shared server needs for four main reasons:

They allow you to send out 500 e-mails an hour vs. 200 at most companies
Hostmonster offers you everything you will need for your new Internet Business. Your hosting company is your office building.
Their prices are pretty phenomenal too.
My advise is to signup for either a 1 year or 2 year contract.
A one year contract is only $7.95/month, with no setup fee, and a free domain registration.
A two year contract is only $6.95/month, with no setup fee, and a free domain registration.

Establish Hosting Account
You will receive an e-mail with your hosting account information, you will need this information.
Print the e-mail and keep in your hosting folder.
Create a folder in your main folder on your desktop called login information.
Cut and Paste the e-mail into a word document and save in that folder as Hostmonster login.

Step 8: Overview of Hostmonster's Cpanel Tool
|
Your hostmonster account will be your centerpiece on the dining room table. It is where your life will be stored and your future income derived. So pay attention and learn the concepts of what you can do from the back office of your Hostmonster account.
As I stated earlier, there are two very popular hosting control softwares. One being Plesk, and the second being Cpanel. I have used both, and I perfer Cpanel, though Plesk is just as powerful, and in some cases far surpasses Cpanel. Hostmonster uses Cpanel, and so that is what we are going to use.
Cpanel gives you total control regarding your shared server hosting account. This is where people go when they type in your domain in the Internet Explorer tool bar.
Cpanel gives you access to all aspects of the server such s:
- Shutting services on and off
- Adding domains
- Adding Email Accounts
- Adding Databases
- Forwarding Email Accounts
- Setting up Crons Jobs
- Setting Permissions
- Establishing FTP Logins
- Web Analytics
- Usage Meters
- and on and on
You wil become an expert in utilizng your cpanel and it won't take you long. Don't worry we will teach you everything that you don't figure out yourself and then some.

Overview of Your Hostmonster Account

Step 9: How to Add Your New Domain to Hosting Account
|
Now that you have had an overview of Hostmonsters cpanel, it is now time to setup the domains that you purchased. So let's get started.
First, we have to login to Go Daddy, and change the DNS on our domain to point to our new hosting account. Godaddy is like the Real Estate tax office. They know where every domain is. They alwasy hold the ownership papers for you in trust, but normally they do not actually have the domain. The domain is allocated to a server, and so when someone comes to Go Daddy and says, we are looking for this domain, Go Daddy looks up your DNS setting and sends the person to the current address.
Presently, Your domain is living on Go Daddys server and we need to have it on hostmonster, so that when someone comes to your house, all your web files will be there, otherwise they would just find an empty house.
That is what we will do in this step. We are going to start at Go Daddy and change the DNS settings to point to Hostmonster. The DNS must be pointing to Hostmonster before Hostmonster will allow us to add the domain to your account.
So we will start at Go Daddy, change the dns settings, then we go into hostmonster and add the domain to your hosting account and then setup the e-mail accounts for that domain. Ready.
